As we close off the year, I’m excited to share a recently completed bathroom project that beautifully captures both the complexity and the reward of a well-designed space. Bathrooms may be among the smallest rooms in a home, but they demand some of the biggest decisions. From tile choices
and layout constraints to fixtures, lighting, and storage, many clients quickly feel overwhelmed. It’s completely normal—there are countless options, each capable of influencing the final outcome. Without a clear direction, it’s easy to lose focus or second-guess every choice.
This is exactly where a structured design process becomes invaluable.
When I begin a bathroom project, my first priority is to simplify the decision-making journey. I start by assessing the existing space, identifying what works, what doesn’t, and where the untapped potential lies. Once the brief is clear, I prepare detailed floor plans that map out essential elements such as circulation, fixture placement, and spatial flow. This gives clients the first visual anchor—something concrete to respond to and build from.
For this project, I designed a make-up vanity where the shower cubicle used to be, and the result was beautiful, and it brought a touch of femininity to the space.
Next come the elevations.
These are crucial, as they show the vertical surfaces: the height of mirrors, the proportion of tiles, the placement of lighting, and the relationship between cabinetry and sanitary ware.
This stage often brings everything into perspective and allows clients to see how individual choices work together.
To complete the vision, I create realistic 3D renditions.
These are often the point where everything ‘clicks.’ Clients can suddenly picture themselves in the space—how the textures will layer, how the colours will read under good lighting, and how the design resolves the challenges of the original room. These visuals remove uncertainty and help clients move forward confidently with their decisions.
Once the design is approved, the transformation begins.
This particular project required stripping the entire room back to the bare bricks—removing every dated layer so we could rebuild from a clean slate. From new plumbing and electrical installations to waterproofing, tiling, and fitted cabinetry, each step was carefully managed.
The installation of the sanitary ware, mirrors, soft, layered lighting, and elegant hardware gradually brought the design to life.
Finally, the finishing touches completed the experience:
Plush towels neatly folded, mirrors gleaming, and the warm glow of scented candles signaling the end of the journey. What began as an overwhelming process evolved into a serene, functional, and timeless retreat.
In the photos below, you’ll see the design unfold—from plans to demolition, installation, and the final reveal. My hope is that this behind-the-scenes look reassures future clients that even complex renovations can be beautifully manageable with the right guidance and vision.
