It’s that time of year when we want to make our homes cozy, comfortable and welcoming.
You might experience a nagging feeling that something is “off” but you don’t know exactly what it is? I believe, as human beings, we experience changes along with the seasons.
As we embrace the crisp air and falling leaves of autumn, it’s the perfect time to transform our living spaces into cozy sanctuaries that reflect the warmth and beauty of the season.
But first things first.
Perhaps you’ve considered getting rid of everything you have so you can start over with new things and ideas, but by only decluttering your space you already create a sense of freshness and openness that is essential for creating a cozy atmosphere.
I’m a fan of using what you have when possible and not always buying new things. By decluttering surfaces and organizing belongings, you can make room for new elements. It is also easier to figure out where to put the furniture you have, or how to combine what you have in a new way, and just adding a few new items to make the space look brand new and different.
Next, infuse an autumn colour palette into the space. Consider incorporating rich hues such as deep oranges, ocher colours, warm browns, deep wine-reds, and earthy greens.
These colours evoke feelings of warmth and coziness, instantly transforming any room into a welcoming retreat. Let your creativity flow and work out your own unique colour palette!

Nothing exudes comfort and tranquility more than various textures, such as plush blankets, soft cushions, and rustic wood accents to add depth and visual interest to your décor.
Also allow yourselves freedom to try new things, and to break the rules. Ultimately it is your home, and the joy lies in your creativity executed in your own way.
The final layer to your autumn décor refresh is elements like candles, soft lighting, books, bowls with nuts, and indoor plants.
Remember to trim all dead leaves from your plants, pause fertilizing till spring and give only the essential water and light. Plants rest during the colder months, so too much kindness might kill them.

Ultimately, creating cozy spaces is just to get started! Do the declutter-thing, stop scrolling for more ideas (it will overwhelm you), and forget that shopping for new stuff is the only way to re-fresh your home. Oh, and don’t forget to get one, or a few, baskets.
Fill them with throws, soft blankets, or wood to create cozy evenings in front of the fireplace.
You are ready now to relax, recharge, and embrace the beauty of the season with your family and friends!
Happy decorating! 🏡✨
